Do I have to service a leased car at the dealer? (Honda Civic)

How-do-you-do,

I demand you guys communication.

I am in 4 years lease for Honda Civic.

Do I have to service a leased auto at the dealer?

I accept always got maintenance service from local private shop (not dealer) just I recently got a alphabetic character from Honda that I should get maintenance service at dealer. Maybe it is kind of reminder being sent based on mileage they approximate for leased motorcar.

Now my mileage is 65000 km and next yr Sept I am supposed to return my leased car.

There is no trouble to visit dealer but I am just worried they will rip off for everything since I never got service at dealer.

No, do it elsewhere with a licensed mechanic and proceed the invoice of what was done at which date at what km, just for warranty purpose.

Dealership basically sent you alphabetic character because they are hungry of your money. Yes, y'all will pay more to get the stuff done at that place for sure.
Don't go to dealership unless it is warranty related work.

And oh yes, don't become to Canadian Tire neither,

Engine and transmission warranty is five years or 100,000 kms on Hondas and pretty much most makes. So having a record of fluid changes is crucial if something were to get wrong with engine or transmission.

And documenting the correct fluids were used at the correct intervals.

Not doing that weakens your example if yous seek warranty piece of work.

A friend returned their 2015 Civic having only done oil changes at a Toyota and never got slapped whatever penalties at lease return.

Possibly the motorcar wasn't driven difficult or too often since they had a minivan besides.

Surprised how lenient Honda Canada is.

Not one time has our 2017 Mazda CX3 (5 year lease) gone back to the dealership. Purchased Winter Tires and Rims from Premier Wheels Straight right after picking up the car from the dealership in Baronial 2017 (only an idiot would by tires & rims from the dealership).

Friend has a shop that does our oil changes ($xl for synthetic) ... I do the oil alter in his shop on the hoist and see what oil is being used. Dealerships put in bulk crap oil ... you actually retrieve they would employ synthetic? And how much they charge? Robbery!

I get my air filters & cabin filters from him ($twenty combined) and so change them myself.

Swapped out the ugly halogen bulbs for LEDs .. amazon.

Just inverse the rear restriction pads and rotors at his shop. Front pads and rotors all the same fine.

He records our transactions on his system with mileage (in example the dealership requests on return of lease).

If it's a charter and y'all plan on returning it, do your service anywhere you desire and as cheap equally possible... Receipt or not it doesn't affair, dealers never check when yous return the car and frankly they don't care, they receive lease returns and service them anyways before putting them upwards for sale

Don't know why yous're claiming dealers utilise crap majority oil... It really depends from dealer to dealer, and depends on the automobile and weight of the oil. Having worked at Honda, most dealers have split tanks for synthetic and regular, existence in bulk doesn't make information technology whatsoever worse... Overpriced? Sure, that's every dealer though

Every bit other posters have said, no manufacturer tin require that the dealership must perform the service equally a status of the warranty or a charter. That being said, they can require that (1) the motorcar owner have documentation proving that parts/fluids were purchased and (2) that those parts or fluids are OEM part numbers or specs. Oil filters should always exist OEM and many many car makers are unhappy when not-OEM air filters are used.

Unfortunately, in that location are a plethora of aftermarket parts out there and some can crusade electrical issues (with non-OEM spec bulbs and other components) or fluid pressure bug (with PS, transmission, and brake fluid, coolant, etc.) so you're somewhat at risk when you don't go to the dealer. Unless the garage is attentive and then are you. Going to the dealership lets you relax, knowing that the machine maker won't blame something you've down for some malady that occurs later. Still, you pay a premium for that peace of mind.

I am a DIYer but pay very conscientious attention to OEM role numbers and specs when I practice the piece of work. And, yes, I've made more than my share of mistakes...

And then which independent shops that uses OEM parts does everyone recommend going for regular maintenance? My car is new and then I wanted to make certain to stick with the dealer for service until factory warranty expires.

Aforementioned with Toyota dealers. If the car is supposed to get constructed , information technology gets synthetic. Saw information technology with my own eyes at Scarborough Toyota.

What is "crap oil" anyways? Why would a dealer employ it? To save $1 dollar?

Recently I returned my leased CR-5 to the dealer ii months before end of lease considering of an excellent incentive for a new automobile. The lease manager said that "dealer serviced" is one of the factors that increases the value of a merchandise for them and makes information technology more likely to become a Honda-certified used car that tin be sold at a college price.

I dunno what the value really is. I didn't set out to service at the dealer but I had some service vouchers from my cost negotiation. And so I found out that the price of winter/summer changeovers on their $38.95 promos were cheaper than my indie shop. And oil changes were only a couple of bucks more. And I kind of liked having Starbucks java and good WIFI while waiting in that location, amenities not available at my indie garage.

That'due south a load of crap... Residual value has nothing to practice with where the motorcar is serviced... It'southward not similar a dealer or indie shop will change the value of a car. As for Honda certified, that is up to the dealer if they want to recondition information technology to run across the Honda certified standards or not.
The amount of crap dealers sell people on is astonishing, I am and so happy to exist done working in the auto industry, just a bunch of accented crooks... It'southward a shame, some cars manufacturers are so great but the people who represent them just give them a bad reputation

Three schools of thought on this one:
According to stealer: Yes you must service it hither 100% or there "could be big penalties" at lease end :lol:

Co-ordinate to Honda: "We recommend y'all get your service done at a Honda dealership..." you know even though they will suddenly have nothing to practise with dealers and they are "independent businesses" when you ever take a complaint about 1 :rolleyes:

According to your lease and warranty requirements: No.
